The mother of 14-year-old Trevyan Rowe has filed a notice of claim against the City of Rochester, a possible first step towards suing the city over her son’s death.
Trevyan’s body was pulled from the Genesee River on March 11th, three days after he wandered away from School 12. The city later admitted that three teachers had failed to mark the teenager “absent,” and 911 dispatchers failed to notify the Fire Department’s water rescue unit that he’d been seen on a bridge over the river.
Mayor Warren admitted at the time that the city was responsible, and repeated that statement Wednesday, saying attorneys are concerned about her admission of the city’s liability, but she’s not. Warren says she’s being straightforward.
The attorney representing Trevyan’s mother says he wants a meeting of interested parties. He says mother Carrie Houston is mainly concerned that this never happens again.
