State Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle is the winner of the Democratic Party nomination in the 25th Congressional District. That means he’ll face Republican Dr. Jim Maxwell in November, with the winner taking over for the late Congresswoman Louise Slaughter.
Slaughter held the seat for more than 30 years until her death in March.
Morelle took about 43 percent of a relatively low-turnout vote. Former news anchor Rachel Barnhart came second with 20 percent. Rochester City Councilman Adam McFadden and Brighton Town Councilmember Robin Wilt each came in at 18 percent.
Voter turnout was about 16 percent countywide.
