Congressman Joe Morelle has denied that he tried to get a Monroe County Legislator fired from her job at the Rochester Institute of Technology, saying he merely inquired about the appropriateness of her appearance on a live Facebook chat with his primary opponent.
Legislator Sabrina Lamar said Morelle’s message to her boss got her reprimanded and there “is a direct line from the Congressman’s demand to my resulting punishment and silencing.”
Morelle released a string of text messages he exchanged with RITs director of government and community relations about LaMar. In them he says the “clearly demonstrate that at no point was there any attempt to threaten Ms. Lamar’s employment, nor discuss funding for the institution.”
