Republican Jim Maxwell has made up some ground in his campaign to replace the late Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, but Democrat Joe Morelle still leads by a comfortable 17 points. That’s down from 24 points in August.
Although the race has tightened, Morelle stands at 53-to-36 percent favorability over Maxwell in a Spectrum News/Siena College poll of likely voters.
The poll finds roughly half the voters still don’t know who Dr. Maxwell is despite his advertisements. Siena Pollster Steve Greenberg says Morelle holds just over 80 percent of Democrats in his corner, while Maxwell has fewer than two-thirds of Republicans backing him.
Democrats have a 60,000 member majority in the 25th Congressional District.
