State Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle says he’s learned that Monroe County has failed to claim $1.5 million awarded by the state in 2014 for renovations and upgrades at Frontier Field.
Morelle says this is troubling since the county and the Rochester Red Wings can’t seem to come to an agreement on a 2018 stadium lease, and stadium maintenance is one of the sticking points.
But the county says Morelle has that wrong. County Spokesman Jesse Sleezer says the county has spent $1.3 million of that money on renovations at Frontier Field, including for a new pedestrian bridge, new lighting, safety netting and maintenance to the steel work.
Sleezer says the county has until April 2021 to file for the reimbursement for that money and will continue to maintain Frontier to a high standard.
