It was early Wednesday morning before 25th District Congressman Joe Morelle declared victory in his bid for re-election, when the Democratic incumbent had 54 percent of the vote to Republican La’Ron Singletary’s 46 percent. That was with 86 percent of the vote counted.
The delay was caused by a glitch at the Monroe County Board of Elections. Numbers showing only election day returns but not the early voting totals showed the race too close to call for much of the night.
Singletary did not concede election night, but did in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon after he spoke with Board of Elections officials.Singletary’s attorney said they had no specific reason to say anything was wrong, but they want to know why the public reporting website maintained by the county was unable to display results for several hours.
Morelle said he expected it would be a close race with the former Rochester Police Chief and he’s excited to be going back to Washington.
