New York remains one of the top five states, with more than 19 million people, but fewer of them are living Upstate.

Monroe County now has about 748,000 resident, holding steady in population. Metro Rochester (including the surrounding counties) has lost nearly 7,000 people since the 2010 Census, offset by more than 3,000 immigrants moving into the area from other countries.

Webster, Penfield and Henrietta have gained in population, while the smaller towns and villages were on the losing end, although generally not by much.

The City of Rochester lost 1,685 people and now has an estimated population of less than 209,000. Buffalo and Syracuse had comparable losses.

Parts of the Southern Tier have seen the most population loss; on the order of ten percent since the last census.
