On Labor Day, New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says more than 9.1 million New Yorkers are working for the first time since the Great Recession began nine years ago.
But his report says regional growth is uneven, with the strongest employment growth downstate and most upstate regions seeing declines. DiNapoli says good job opportunities for all New Yorkers remains a challenge.
The Upstate workforce is actually decreasing, indicating that people are either moving out, aging out or giving up on looking for work — or likely all three.
