New York is moving into what it calls Phase 1B of its COVID vaccination program on Monday, opening up the coronavirus shots to people over 75 and essential workers including teachers, cops, firefighters and transit workers.
The shots are by appointment only, and Governor Andrew Cuomo says it will take about 14 weeks to get the job done at the rate the state is receiving its supply of the vaccine. The state is opening a COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline Monday afternoon to schedule appointments at 833-NYS-4-VAX.Â
Governor Cuomo said in a weekend conference call that hospitals should continue to emphasize vaccinating 1A groups, which are health care and medical workers. He said County Health Departments should focus on the expanded 1B group.
Prior to receiving the vaccination, qualified applicants must complete a New York State COVID-19 Vaccine Form. They’ll get an ID they hand in to get the shot. The state says everyone must bring proof of eligibility to the vaccination site.
