More details about the abduction of two University of Rochester students are coming out this week. Four of the nine suspects were in court this week, each claiming through their attorneys that they were pawns in a crime planned by four other men.
The evidence hearing this week was to verify that all evidence and statements were collected legally.
According to the criminal complaints, 22-year-old Samatha Hughes is accused of luring U of R football players Ani Okeke Ewo and Nicholas Kollias off campus, her lawyer says without knowledge of what was to come. The pair were then kidnapped and held for nearly two days in a house on Harvest Street. Until a SWAT team rescued them they were beaten, robbed, abused and one was shot.
Police say this was in retaliation for the robbery of a drug dealer at an off-campus student apartment where one of the victims once lived. But neither of the victims was involved in that crime, and police say they were mistaken for the actual robbers.
