Blue-Green Algae-Liv Co HD PhotoThe fall weather has brought down the temperatures and brought more rain, but the Livingston County Health Department says large blue-green algae blooms were recently found on the east shoreline of Conesus Lake, from the boat launch to the north end of the lake.

Officials say the large blooms dissipated after the rains on Thursday and Friday, but small local blooms have been identified in stagnant water areas in the northeast part of the lake. Some kinds of the algae produce toxins that cause rashes and flu-like symptoms, so discolored or scummy-looking water should be avoided.

Blue-green algae is usually a warm weather problem. The health department is monitoring and there’s no threat to drinking water.
