Monroe County reported its largest number of new COVID-19 cases ever on Tuesday, although the number was for a two-day period over the Christmas holiday.
They reported 1,100 new cases, more than 500 each day over the two days Monday and Tuesday. They say there was a backlog in reporting cases due to Christmas which will take several days to clear. The seven day rolling average of new cases is 641 per day.
Statewide, about 20 percent of COVID tests have been coming back positive.
