Monroe County is ordering its employees to resume wearing masks in the public and common areas of all county-operated facilities. It’s recommending all county residents return to wearing masks at all indoor facilities, regardless of vaccination status.

The recommendation comes from Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and County Public Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza. It’s in response to the CDC declaration that Monroe County is a “substantial transmission” zone for COVID-19.

Bello says the county is seeing a daily surge of new positive COVID-19 cases. While the vaccine is still effective, he says the new Delta strain of the virus is more contagious than the earlier strains.
