The Baby Boom generation is getting older, and the U.S. Census Bureau says that’s what’s pushing the U.S. and our Rochester regional population into a distinctly older age group.

New population estimates say the nation’s median age…where half of us are younger and half are older…is now nearly 38. That’s up more than two years since 2000. The Median age for Monroe County is 38.5 years.

The estimates also show Monroe County is getting more diverse as well as older. The number of Hispanic residents in the Rochester area is up by 63 percent since 2000 and 18 percent since 2010. That mirrors the national trend as well.
