Monroe County’s Office of Public Integrity says it will work with New York’s Department of Motor Vehicles to investigate the discovery of sensitive documents found in dumpsters behind Monroe County Auto License Bureaus.
The bureaus are run by the Monroe County Clerk’s Office. Unshredded documents with people’s personal information including social security numbers were found tossed into dumpsters behind the offices in Henrietta and Irondequoit.
Office of Public Integrity Director David Moore said in a statement that he can’t comment on the nature of their investigation, but confirms that he has been contacted both by the County Clerk’s Office and the Monroe County Legislature. More says policy and procedure will dictate the next steps.
Moore also suggests that free credit monitoring should be offered by the County Clerk’s office to anyone who has conducted a transaction at the ALB’s within the past 90 days.
