Monroe County’s Director of Public Health Dr. Michael Mendoza says we’re seeing the start of the post-Thanksgiving uptick in coronavirus cases. A record 654 new cases were reported on Thursday, and Dr. Mendoza says 19 people have died of COVID-19 since November 23rd.
Mendoza says it’s time to do your part to prevent viral spread. He said community spread through small groups continues to be the main source of the problem: private gatherings in homes where people of different families gather without masks. Dr. Mendoza said we have to work together and change our behavior. He said continued spread risks overwhelming the hospital system. He said “now is frankly the time to stop gathering outside our household.”
