Monroe County legislators approved the county’s 2019 budget Tuesday night, including a slight drop in property tax rates. It’s the first tax rate cut in 10 years, and will amount to about $15 for an average homeowner.
The total spending package is $1.23 billion.
Democrats, who make up the minority party on the legislature, point out that the county’s overall tax levy will go up as property values rise.
The budget includes more funding for child and child protective services, although a Democratic initiative to boost their pay was voted down.
