The Monroe County Republican Party Chairman is calling for an investigation into Democratic Congressman Joe Morelle’s interaction with Monroe County Legislator Sabrina LaMar.

Morelle contacted the Rochester Institute of Technology after LaMar, who is employed there, appeared in her professional capacity on a Facebook Live stream hosted by Morelle’s primary election opponent. LaMar says the upshot was that she was briefly suspended; Morelle denied threatening her job and the university and released a string of texts to back his position.

Chairman Bill Napier says it looks likely that the incident was an attempt by Morelle to strong-arm his son’s political opponent on the legislature. Joe Morelle Jr. is also a county legislator and had a dispute with LaMar over a letter she said was racist.

Napier says it’s necessary to determine if the powerful father of a county legislator tried to act as a weapon of political intimidation.
