Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo is taking a stand against the idea of Monroe becoming a “sanctuary county.”
The Republican County Executive says that could jeopardize federal funding that help pay for everything from public safety to welfare benefits. She says it’s not fair to jeopardize public safety and the well being of the community by getting into conflict with federal authorities over immigration issues.
Dinolfo calls the sanctuary proposal from Democratic County Legislator Mark Muoio “a political stunt.”
Muoio says in a statement he’s not surprised the county exec is against his proposal, but he says she’s fear mongering. Muoio says his resolution uses language vetted by the State Attorney General. He says the real risk would be to do nothing while President Trump’s immigration raids continue.
