Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has declared a state of emergency after posting 511 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with 414 hospitalizations, up 14 from Monday.
Bello said it’s time for common-sense approaches to controlling COVID in the community. They include:
- A mask mandate for employees and visitors in county-operated buildings.
- A work from home policy for county employees who are able to take advantage of it.
- Encouraging business owners to require masks in their properties.
- Monroe County will buy and hand out 750,000 COVID rapid test kits.
Phase II of the state of emergency would include vaccination and testing mandates for indoor events and activities.
The county is working on a distribution plan to get the most use out of the test kits.
