Newly re-elected Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello wants to bring a DMV office back to downtown Rochester.
There hasn’t been a county auto license bureau office downtown since 2003. A mobile office sets up in the City Place Building lobby on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, across the street from the County Office Building. But Bello says that’s not good enough for a city of more than 200,000 people, and it’s unfair that the suburbs get better service.
Bello has the support of Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren, who also calls it an issue of fairness for city residents.
Bello has budgeted funds in his 2017 budget to renovate the City Place lobby and hire staff to make the part-time DMV office a full-time one. He’s hoping the county legislature will adopt it on Tuesday night.
