The Amphitheater in Rochester’s Martin Luther King Park has been named in honor of Daniel Prude, the man who died after being physically restrained by Rochester police while suffering from a drug-induced mental health crisis in March of 2020.
The amphitheater and fountain already had a large mural of Prude. A sign has been added naming the area Daniel Prude Square. Mayor Malik Evans said in a statement that the city will never forget him, and his “death reverberated across and beyond our region.”
