Divers for the Monroe County Sheriffs Office say they recovered a body Sunday night in Irondequoit Bay that is presumed to be that of a missing 49-year-old swimmer. They say the held off on announcing the discovery because the victim’s next of kin were traveling here from outside the Rochester area.
Sheriff’s Department officials say four people were swimming off a pontoon boat in the Bay on Sunday afternoon when one went underwater and did not resurface. Several agencies including State Police and the West Webster Fire Department searched for the man.
The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to make a formal identification of the victim. The name will be released at that time.
