The alert for a missing Ontario County man and his 18-month-old son has been canceled after the pair were found at a hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for 36-year-old Leroy Newswanger and his 18-month-old son, Glenn David Newswanger. Sheriff Phil Povero says the search covered several states and that Newswanger may have some sort of issue with the federal government or a message that he wanted to deliver to authorities in Washington, DC. He says there’s no indication the father intended to harm the child.
Sheriff Povero says the boy and his father were found, safe and sound, when Leroy Newswanger asked for medical attention for his son and hospital personnel thought his behavior was suspicious. They did an online search, found news stories about the father and son’s disappearance from the Rochester area, and called the authorities.
Sheriff Povero said Newswanger was being held at the hospital and was being evaluated.
