The search for a missing boater on Seneca Lake was suspended at nightfall Thursday and will continue Friday morning.

Seneca Lake 2The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office says a 911 call came in at about 3:50 Thursday afternoon from a 12-year-old girl, saying her father and her 11-year-old cousin were in distress in the water. The girl said both had gone in for a swim without lifejackets on and rough water pushed the boat away from them so they couldn’t get back on board.

Deputies found the pontoon boat near Kime Beach on the east side of Seneca Lake. The 12-year-old girl was uninjured. The 11-year-old was picked up from the water by another boater and brought to a nearby marina, where she was checked out and taken to Geneva General Hospital. She’s since been released and is O.K.
The 47-year-old Geneva man has not been found although boats from the sheriff’s department and four fire departments were on the water searching until dark.
