Honeoye Falls Mayor Richard Milne says he’s now resuming his campaign for the 133rd New York State Assembly District.
Milne is seeking the Republican nomination to run for the seat in November. He was in tomorrow’s primary election against Assemblyman Bill Nojay. Milne suspended his campaign for the weekend following Nojay’s death on Friday, but says today he has no choice but to move forward and carry on the work necessary to represent the district.
Assemblyman Nojay’s name remains on the ballot for tomorrow, despite his suicide on Friday. New York Election Law doesn’t allow changes to the ballot within seven days of an election.
Should Nojay win the primary, the Republican Party Chairs of Republican Party Chairs of Monroe, Livingston and Steuben Counties would have to agree on a successor candidate. The district overlaps parts of all three.
The Steuben County GOP Chairman has urged Republicans to vote for Nojay so the chairs can pick the best candidate.
Barbara Baer is running for the seat on the Democratic line.election.
