Military medical teams are coming to Strong Memorial and other upstate hospitals.
United States Senator Chuck Schumer says Strong Hospital staff will be joined by two U.S. Department of Defense Military Medical Teams beginning in February. Teams at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse and the Erie County Medical Center will extend their stays. Schumer says the teams have about 20 members each, including doctors, nurses, respiratory technicians and command staff. They’ll work to relieve hard-pressed staff working through the surge in COVID-19 patients. They’ll be at Strong for about 30 days.
Schumer visited Strong Memorial Hospital in January and pushed for the MMTs to help out at for profit hospitals, not just non-profits like Buffalo and Syracuse.
