Monroe County officials say a person with a confirmed case of the measles spent time in Monroe County last week, arriving and departing via the airport.

The Monroe County Department of Public Health has contacted the places where the individual stayed, went and ate, mainly in Webster. They’re looking to identify anyone who may have been exposed while the person was infectious, which would have been from Tuesday, September 17 through Friday, September 20. The person returned home on a Friday evening American Airlines flight to Boston and Los Angeles, and began to get sick after arriving home.

Here’s the timeline of the person’s visit and potential exposure to other people:

A person is considered immune and is unlikely to get measles if they were born before January 1, 1957, or have received two doses of the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine or have a lab test confirming immunity.

Those individuals lacking immunity or not sure if they have been vaccinated are at risk of developing measles. Symptoms include a fever, rash, cough, conjunctivitis (red eyes) and/or runny nose. Symptoms usually appear in 10-12 days after exposure but may take as long as 21 days.
