A man from India traveling through Western New York last week may have exposed people in Niagara and Monroe Counties to the measles.

Monroe County Health Director Michael Mendoza says the man stayed on Friday at the Brockport Hampton Inn after a visit to Niagara Falls. He says they’ve reached out to everyone they could identify who stayed or worked there while the visitor was staying there, and also contacted area doctors to be alert to the situation.

Dr. Mendoza says the measles virus can only survive for about two hours without a host, so only those who actually came into contact with the man and who aren’t properly vaccinated could be at risk.
