The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says, after careful review, it will no longer seek accreditation from multiple agencies.
Sheriff Todd Baxter says the Sheriff’s Office will maintain accreditation through the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Program…or NYSLEAP. It will no longer certify its police bureau through the national Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, or CALEA.
The sheriff says they’ve decided to go with the accreditation that specifically focuses on New York law enforcement.
Accrediting agencies set and maintain training and policy standards for police agencies.
