After nearly a week of saying that rookie quarterback Josh Allen was probably starting, without actually saying the words, Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott finally said it Friday.

Allen returns to the lineup in Week 12 to face a tough defensive foe in the Jacksonville Jaguars (3-7). Allen was originally injured in Week 6 against the Houston Texans after a helmet hit his elbow.

“As long as we can get through today, he’ll start,” McDermott said.

Allen will face the No. 3 ranked pass defense in the NFL in the Jags, who are only allowing an average of 210.2 yards per game.

Pending health, McDermott has said that Allen will start the rest of the season. In that time, McDermott simply wants Allen to gain every bit of knowledge he can.

“I want to see him learn with every rep. That’s all we ask of every play to embrace that growth mindset,” McDermott said. “We want him to come out of this season with a ton of experience.”
