Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren wants Governor Cuomo to order a state takeover of the Rochester City School District’s finances. City Council will take up legislation formally making that request at a special meeting Monday afternoon.
Warren says in a letter along with her legislation that the city has achieved an excellent bond rating through tight fiscal management, which the school district now threatens by fiscal mismanagement. Warren says the city has been informed by Moody’s that its Aa3 bond rating is under review because of the school district’s $30 million budget overrun.
Without immediate fiscal controls from the state, Warren says the school district will likely continue to jeopardize its own finances and the city’s as well.
