Matt Hunwick continues to take steps towards being ready for NHL action.
The 33-year-old defenseman was acquired as part of the trade that sent Conor Sheary to the Buffalo sabres back in June.
He’s been out since training camp with a neck injury he suffered while training in the offseason.
After practicing with the team for the past few weeks, Hunwick, will take the next step towards a return.
Head coach Phil Housley said today he’ll be assigned to the Rochester Americans for a conditioning assignment. He’ll play in the Amerks game Wednesday at home against the Binghamton Devils and possibly Friday against the Cleveland Monsters.
We’ll see what the Sabres do with their log jam on defense when Hunwick returns.
Marco Scandella skated Tuesday and could return to action soon as well.
