Demolition equipment began tearing into the former Mario’s Restaurant on Monroe Avenue in Brighton Friday, making way for the Wholefoods Plaza development by the Daniele Family.
Once Mario’s is gone, crews will tear down the former Clover Lanes next door. Danny Daniele says construction will begin in early summer and last about a year.
Groups including Brighton Grassroots LLC are still pushing lawsuits against the project, but two major ones were thrown out earlier this month, allowing for the start of demolition.
The group says the Wholefoods project is too big for the site and will cause endless traffic problems.
