Toronto hangs on to beat Buffalo, 3-2, and sweep the weekend preseason series.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Auston Matthews scored a first-period goal, and Calle Rosen broke a third-period tie to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 3-2 preseason win against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center on Saturday.
Matthews scored his second of the preseason 2:42 into the second period to tie it 1-1, after Kyle Okposo made it 1-0 with a power-play goal 4:17 into the first period.
Jeff Skinner scored his first goal since being traded to the Sabres by the Carolina Hurricanes, tying it 2-2 with 13 seconds left in the second period. Jeremy Bracco gave Toronto a 2-1 lead at 5:37.
Rosen scored a power-play goal at 10:32 of the third period.
Calvin Pickard did not allow a goal on 14 shots playing the third period for Toronto in relief of Frederik Andersen, who made 19 saves.
Carter Hutton made 28 saves for Buffalo (2-2).
