The third trial of a Rochester man accused of violently murdering his girlfriend nearly 11 years ago has ended in a second degree murder conviction.

Donyell McKenzie was found guilty for the third time of stabbing  23-year-old Tyffany Porter to death in front of their seven-year-old daughter. McKenzie stabbed her 47 times, then fled. The victim’s daughter called 911 to report what had happened. McKenzie later turned himself in to Rochester Police.

After the crime in 2006, McKenzie was found guilty in two earlier trials. The first verdict was set aside because of procedural issues in the court. The second was overturned because of problems with McKenzie’s defense. McKenzie has been in jail during all of this, and he’s already served more than ten years.

He’ll be sentenced on August 24th.
