The man found guilty of causing a four-way crash that killed an Ontario County man has been sentenced to serve one-to-four years in state prison.
John Pinnock was found guilty by a jury of criminally negligent homicide. Despite being warned that his pickup truck needed urgent repairs, Pinnock kept on driving. A wheel came off nearly two years ago on Route 96, causing a pileup that killed Hopewell Town Employee Lee Schutt
Pinnock apologized to the Schutt family at sentencing today and said he wished he was dead instead. Defense Attorney Jason Housel says his client was strongly affected by what happened. Lee Schutt’s widow, Bree Schutt, says she’s just glad the process is over and she finds nothing good in the verdict or the sentencing.
Prosecutors noted that Pinnock forged an inspection sticker for his truck instead of getting it fixed.
Pinnock will spend at least 10 months in prison before he’s eligible for parole.
