Photo published for Man sentenced for shooting at deputy's patrol carThe man who fired a rifle out a window of the Hotel Byron at a Genesee County Deputy’s patrol car earlier this year has been sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison.

David O’Connor was charged with attempted murder after shooting out the patrol car’s rear windows while the deputy was conducting a traffic stop in Byron. He took a plea deal in return for the 12-and-a-half year sentence.

O’Connor’s lawyer says he was trying to shoot out the deputy’s tires. O’Connor has never apologized, but readily admitted to firing the shot. He was drunk and sitting on his bed with his rifle and ammunition when arrested.

The Genesee County District Attorney says he believes O’Connor was nursing some sort of grudge against police.
