The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has identified the pedestrian struck by the side of East River Road last night as a Rochester Institute of Technology student, Steven Carranco of Perris, California.
Carranco, who is deaf, was walking along the road near the Cape Henry Trail, when he was struck by a box truck driven by Richard Lippa. Lippa heard the impact, stopped and found the injured man.
Carranco is currently listed in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital with head, leg and other injuries. Deputies will issue tickets due to the condition of the truck, but no criminal charges have been filed.
