Livingston County deputies and other law enforcement agencies blocked off an area around Route 63 in Geneseo Wednesday evening after they say a man pulled a gun on an officer during a traffic stop.

Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty said by Twitter that the suspect was last seen on Route 63 south of 20A in the Town of Geneseo. His office advised people in that area to stay indoors while the investigation was underway.

Sheriff Dougherty said a Geneseo police officer conducted a traffic stop in the village, during which the man got out of his car and drew a handgun. Dougherty says there was some type of exchange between the two and there was gunfire, but would not say if the suspect, the officer, or both fired. The officer wasn’t injured.

A woman was also in the car that was pulled over. She was taken into custody after trying to run away. The man escaped from the scene.

Authorities say the suspect is armed and dangerous.
