U.S. Marshals say a man they were trying to arrest was shot and killed when his own gun went off during a scuffle with officers on Wednesday morning.
A U.S. Marshals Task Force was seeking to arrest 24-year-old Dedrick James, who was wanted on a warrant from Wayne County for assaulting a child. They went to a home on Vinewood Place near Dr. Samuel McCree Way to pick him up, but James had a gun.
Marshal Charles Salina says there was a fight over that gun with the arresting officers, and the weapon went off, fatally injuring James. He died at the scene.
State and Rochester authorities are investigating the shooting.
