A Rochester man owes his life to his cellphone and fast action by the Rochester Fire Department.

Fire broke out about 11:30 Tuesday night at 386 Genesee Street. An occupant called the fire in to 911, telling operators he was trapped by the flames in a first floor bedroom.

Fire crews arrived to find fire blowing out the north side of the double house. They went in, found the man and got him out safely. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

The fire was under control within the hour, and the cause is under investigation. No firefighters were hurt.
