A Rochester man is in critical condition after a fire on the South Side on Saturday afternoon. Four people and a dog were rescued.
The fire broke out about 12:30 p.m. on Bloomfield Place, in the living room. Firefighters rescued a disabled man from the first floor and took him to Strong Memorial Hospital. He suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. They also rescued the man’s son, daughter and grandchild from the second floor. All three escaped without injury. A dog was rescued from the first floor and treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire has not been released, but the fire department says there were no smoke detectors in the house.
