A man walking on a trail near the edge of the Genesee River Gorge Sunday morning slipped and fell some 30 feet onto a rock wall in the gorge, then slid another 70 feet to the bottom of the gorge.

The accident happened just north of the Driving Park Bridge, in the Maplewood Rose Garden.

Rochester firefighters reached the man with a boat on the river and brought him out of the gorge. He was taken to the hospital and is in critical but stable condition.
