A man cleaning out the garage of a house on Shum Lane in Rochester found a surprise: a Vietnam-era military projectile.
The device appeared in TV footage to be a mortar round. The man who found it called police, who called in the Bomb Squad. They called the Department of Defense, and DOD officials gave them authorization to secure the device.
Roads were closed and considerable excitement was generated in the neighborhood during the process.
