Rochester police were able to disarm a man who ran at them with a knife and asked them to shoot him on Tuesday night.
Police were called about 6:30 in the evening to a house on Bay Street near Bedford Street. They heard yelling from inside on arriving, and found a 32-year-old city man outside. He pointed a knife at officers and asked them to shoot him.
The Person in Crisis team was called, but could not respond because the man was armed.
The man pointed his knife at three officers and ran at them, but they were able to convince him to drop the knife and he was arrested.
As the suspect was being put in the car, he head-butted and injured one of the arresting officers. He required stitches and a medical evaluation.
The man was charged with menacing a police officer and second-degree assault
