Rochester’s second homicide victim of 2013 has been identified as 25-year-old Michael Mathis. Mathis was fatally shot near Midnight Saturday in a parking lot at the corner of East Avenue and Union Street.
Police working the East End bar district heard the shots and ran to the scene, finding the victim on the ground. He died after being brought to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Mathis had previously been acquitted of the 2015 mass shooting outside the Boys and Girls Club on Genesee Street in Rochester. Three people were killed and three others injured in that shooting.
Police say they won’t speculate as to the motive behind the Mathis shooting.
