Police from five different jurisdictions swarmed over Durand Eastman Park this evening after a report of shots being fired. People trying to cool off at the beach were told to leave for their own safety.
Rochester Police say a joint investigation is underway with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Greece Police, Irondequoit Police and State Police.
Police continue to search for half a dozen suspects: four white men and two white women. No descriptions of the suspects were given. Police are looking for a possible suspect vehicle described as a maroon, 2006 Mercedes Benz with New York “GOLF I” license plates.
Police say that car was stolen from the park. Anyone who sees it is asked not to approach but to call 911.
According to Monroe County Fire Wire, an Irondequoit Police officer spotted a stolen H2 Hummer at a Durand Eastman parking lot. The officer called for backup and they watched the yellow Hummer until a group of suspects came back from the beach. Police then gave chase until the Hummer crashed on the Durand Golf Course. Shots were reportedly fired.
Police searched the golf course and learned the suspects might have stolen the Mercedes there.
Police did not take any questions at either of their two briefings on the situation..
