To the south of the Dewey Avenue Corridor, the Lyell-Otis neighborhood has had a series of shootings this month, leading up to a man being shot dead across from School 54 on Otis Street last week as children were arriving in the morning.
The neighborhood association met with Rochester’s police chief last night at the Lyell Branch Library. They gave him an earfull, saying violence drugs and prostitution are persistent problems in Lyell-Otis.
Long-time residents said they have been since the mid-1980s and question if there are enough police officers on the streets. The city is adding more officers in the budget approved earlier this month.
