The man who was set on fire by two teenage boys at his apartment on Lyell Avenue has died, according to Rochester police. The two teenaged boys accused of spraying him with a flammable liquid and setting him on fire have been charged with murder.
Police say 16-year-old Zayvion Perry and 14-year-old Adriel Riley Jr. are both charged with 2nd degree murder in the death of 53-year-old Steven Amenhauser. Amenhauser died early Tuesday after being set on fire Friday. He suffered second and third degree burns over 70 percent of his body.
The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office says Perry will be prosecuted as an adolescent offender; Riley as a juvenile offender under New York State law. Neither is being transferred to family court at this time.
At an evening news conference, Rochester police said Amenhauser was in declining health. They said he was known to Perry and Riley, but they were not related.
